Daniel Martinico – the independent filmmaker behind OK, Good (SFF 2012, Slamdance 2012), Excursions (Slamdance 2016), and The Blockbuster Tapes – joins us this Saturday for a free online screening of both of his features, and an extended live Q+A.
OK, Good follows a struggling actor, as a series of demoralizing auditions and an intense movement workshop push him further and further towards the edge. In his review for Variety, Joe Leydon called OK, Good “a riveting portrait of an actor on the verge of a nervous breakdown — or, quite possibly, something worse… a teasingly elliptical bare-bones drama that [is] often reminiscent of austere works by Robert Bresson and Chantal Akerman”.
Excursions finds two couples heading to a quiet place to engage in a ritualistic search for enlightenment. In his review for Screen Anarchy, Benjamin Umstead likens Excursions to “Michael Haneke’s The Seventh Continent via a hot yoga class”.
Daniel Martinico is an artist and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. His videos have shown in galleries, film festivals and museums internationally. He currently teaches at U.C. San Diego.
Both films will stream in our unique online screening room, where you can make your voice heard in our live text-chat or go full-screen for the true home cinema experience — the choice is yours. As always, it’s free to tune in from anywhere within Australia!
