📣 Understory Film Festival - Cairns is one of 10 film festivals across QLD taking part in an online film festival celebrating QLD-made short films! We’ve nominated ℤ𝕠𝕞𝕓𝕚𝕖𝕤 𝕍 𝕥𝕙𝕖 ℂ.𝕎.𝔸 from Travis Bain which screened at Understory Film Festival in 2019 and won Best Screenplay and People's Choice! 🎥🧟‍♂️ Tune in Friday 3 July at 7.30pm and vote for your favourite film! The winning filmmaker will receive $1000 and audience voters can win a night at QT Gold Coast and tickets to Gold Coast Film Festival in April. Attention Filmmakers (and heads up film lovers!) 📽💗 We are so ⚡️pumped⚡️ to announce film submissions are now OPEN for the 7th annual Understory Film Festival! 🥳 Open to short films of any genre, last year’s Festival attracted 73 entries across various disciplines from documentaries and narratives to experimental film, music videos and animations. The Screening and Awards Night will be held on Saturday, 7 November 2020 at a venue to be advised. Submit your film by 4pm Tuesday 6 October 2020. If you are entering your film under the High School Student Category your film must be submitted via a Teacher Liaison or Head of Department, at your school by Thursday 1 October 2020. We are proud to introduce our brand new magazine that highlights and provides information on the programs, projects and events of Cairns Regional Council’s arts and cultural branch – Cultural Services. It’s a one-stop-shop where you can get your dose of live music, theatre and the arts, happening right here in Cairns. Vibrance magazine showcases the likes of Understory Film Festival, the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), creative developments and artists-in-residence works, successful grant outcomes, new public art installations, Cairns Festival and more. It’s also the new program covering upcoming events across Council venues including Cairns Performing Arts Centre, Munro Martin Parklands and Tanks Arts Centre. screenPLAY film applications now open 🎬 Children aged 8-15 are invited to enter a short film to screenPLAY, a program designed by Cairns Regional Council especially for Cairns’ young filmmakers, with all films entered to be screened to thousands at the 2020 Cairns Children’s Festival in May. The films will also receive an automatic entry into this year's Understory Film Festival. Applications close Monday 4 May 2020. ✨ Cairns High Students sign up for second series ✨ Jonathan M. Shiff, the internationally-renowned Queensland producer who helped launch the careers of many young Australian stars in Hollywood, returns to the Gold Coast with a second series of the hit children’s television project: The Bureau of Magical Things, starring former Cairns State High School students Elizabeth and Julian Cullen. Production will take place in Brisbane and the Gold Coast from December 2019 to July 2020 with the original Queensland cast to return for the 20-part series. Understory Film Festival multi-award winners Elizabeth Cullen and Julian Cullen, are brother and sister off-screen, and return as elf brother and sister on-screen. The series airs on Nickelodean and received major production investment from ZDF Enterprises, Screen Queensland and Screen Australia.
