The 2019 SciFi Film Festival will unveil this year’s line-up of cutting-edge science-fiction/fantasy cinema from Friday September 6th through Sunday 8th. The sixth edition of Australia’s leading speculative cinema event will once again call the Event Cinemas its home.Lovers of visionary sci-fi and local and international filmmakers crafting exciting new genre narratives can now diarise the following dates:DEADLINES:
– Opening Deadline: 8 April 2019
– Earlybird Deadline: 8 May 2019
– Regular Deadline: 30 April 2019
– Late Deadline: 30 June 2019It was decided that the 2019 SciFi Film Festival would move up six weeks on the calendar from the mid-October dates it occupied in 2018. Says Program Director Simon Foster, “We recognised that the film festival landscape could accommodate a specialised genre event in early September. It is also the right time of year to pick and choose from both the American summer releases and the mid-year festival roster from Europe and Asia.”No official programming decisions are ready to be announced. Alongside Foster, Festival Director Tom Papas is currently working through submissions via the festival’s Film Freeway and Reelport accounts, as well as scanning the line-ups from such renowned genre festivals as Boston Sci-Fi Fest, Berlin Sci-Fi Filmfest and Fantasporto - Porto International Film Festival, to name just a few of the global festival gatherings from which SciFi Film Festival sources titles. It is anticipated that Australian films will once again feature heavily in the festival’s line-up, which has proven a launching pad for independent local productions. Luke Sullivan’s Reflections in the Dust is currently in local cinemas having had its Australian Premiere at the 2018 SciFi Film Festival, where it won Best Actor for leading man Robin Royce Queree.First wave programming announcements will be released in mid-April; Sydney-based film sector website Screen-Space is on-board as an official Media Partner.
