=======================================I am sitting in my office this afternoon with the Sydney Marathon on Sunday I am reflecting it will be my 300th marathon. I can't really believe it has been that many. The time has gone so quickly.I have meet so many wonderful fellow runners. That you for just being there. I have had so many unique experiences with them. I thank you for the memories.Thank you to my wife of 41years for supporting me over the last 20 years.I ran my first in May 1982 and stopped at 4 in 1984. Alcohol became an issue and I did not ran another marathon until June 1997 soon after getting out of detox and rehab. I reflected on how I would handle life without alcohol after that and tried to work out who I was and what I wanted in life.I than ran the Canberra marathon in April 1998 and it all started from there. I did not think I would be here when I ran that marathon. I have the finish picture in my office. AA's mantra is a 'day at a time' and I guess running marathons has been one at a time.My 100th came at Canberra in April 2009.
My 200th came at Canberra in April 2015
and 300 will be on Sunday. The last 100 in 3 years 5 month.Highlights
Marathon #36 Canberra April 2002 and my first sub 3
Marathon #80 Gold Coast 2007 my last sub 3 at just over 58 years old.
Each and every marathon and being able to finish themHaving been able to run 35 marathons since the last Sydney marathon with my 70th birthday mid next year.I would like to think as I get slower the thought is as stated by Percy Cerutty 'Others may run faster but no one runs harder'
