The MUFF 20 Call For Entries -
Trigger Warning!Communication start:The 20th Melbourne Underground Film Festival is now calling for entries.Yes, MUFF is in its big 20th Year and we have a wonderful celebration planned for our 20th year of film making rebellion and cinematic trouble making, and general apple cart over turning, on a whole range of social and political issue related to cinema and society.Over it’s 20 year existence MUFF has discovered, from 2000 to 2019, some of the most vital and exciting voices of Australian cinema including James Wan, Patrick Hughes, Greg McLean, The Spierig Brothers, Scott Ryan, Leigh Whannel, Kristen Condon, Zak Hilditch, Abe Forsythe, Mike Retter, Ebony Atlanta Butler, Mark Bakaitis, Nic Barker, Stuart Simpson, Addison Heath, Travis Bain, Anna Brownfield, Ursula Dabrowsky, Daniel Armstrong, Stefan Popescu, Dean Francis, Andrew O’Keefe, Tim Burns, Timothy Spanos, Mathew Victor Pastor, Jason Turley, Donna McRae, James DiMartino, Julian Edwards, Chris Mitchell, Nathan Hill and Gregory Pakis. MUFF has been the first festival to play the work of many of the above listed Aussie filmmakers, or one of the very first. We have also showcased the work of longer established Indy figures like Jon Hewitt, Mark Savage, Bill Mousoulis, Frank Howson, Paul Moder, Brian Trenchard Smith, and a host of others. We have also showcased the work on International Indy Film makers like Bruce LaBruce, Terry McMahon, Michael Parle, Ivan Kavanagh, Jen Lynch, Geretta Geretta, Lloyd Kaufmann, Jim Van Bebber, Crispin Hellion Glover, Micheal Tierney, Gene Gregorits and William Lustig, to name but a few. Many of whom have been our International Festival guests.MUFF has also inspired many other indy festival like The Brisbane and Sydney Underground Film Festival, Sexy International Film Festival, OZ International Film Festival and A Night of Horror film Festival in Sydney.MUFF has played a great diversity of voices in Indy cinema from all walks of cinema endeavor and from all around the globe, from Ireland to Iran and from Canada to Catalonia. But MUFF has always fought against the ideas of film industry quotas based on gender, sexuality and identity. MUFF has fought against all forms of Political Correctness in general and the hive mind and voice of contemporary government funded Screen Culture. MUFF has fought for radical Free Speech agendas, supported actual diversity of thought in cinema, playing films with radical politics of all different hues. It has played conspiracy theory and controversial documentaries after much public protest, always siding with the public right to see controversial and contentious material. MUFF has dug up and dug out actual cinematic variety, and has deliberately sought out controversy, public debate and provocation over it’s 20 years of life.MUFF is a film makers festival, also, a festival run by filmmakers and film making volunteers, not bureaucrats, over it 20 years, with the same director, filmmaker and writer Richard Wolstencroft at the helm as Festival Director. MUFF has done all this for 20 years without any Government Funding or cost to the tax payer, the only established Indy film festival in Australia that can say that.MUFF has established itself safely as the most controversial, wild, cheeky, irreverent and cutting edge Independent film festival event in Australia. We are proud of our achievements at MUFF, and we hope you will join us in our 20th year.Want to be a part of MUFF 20?
